What is Avid OSM?
Avid OSM is software for on-screen marking and digital evaluation of answer scripts. Examiners mark scanned handwritten books on screen; universities control allocation, progress and results. Version 3.0 includes Avid AI Professor, which can suggest question-wise marks with a written reason. Final marks stay with the examiner and the institution.

What is On-Screen Marking?
On-Screen Marking (OSM) means examiners evaluate scanned answer scripts on a computer instead of handling physical answer books. Marks, annotations and submissions are recorded digitally so the examination body can track progress and later audit how a copy was marked.
Physical evaluation typically moves bundles of paper between centres, examiners and the university. OSM keeps the script as images, assigns copies to examiners, and records every mark against a question scheme.
How do On-Screen Marking, digital evaluation and Avid AI Professor differ?
Digital evaluation is the full pipeline from scanning answer books to results. On-Screen Marking is the examiner’s on-screen marking step. Avid OSM is Avid Web Solutions’ platform for that work. Avid AI Professor is optional AI-assisted mark suggestion inside OSM 3.0 — not a student LMS tutor and not autonomous final grading.

What is Digital Evaluation?
Digital evaluation is the broader process: fictitious-number masking and flap tear-off, scanning on overhead or high-speed scanners (copies may be opened or restuck for capture), upload to a secure private cloud, system identification of each copy (pages and scan quality), agency page-by-page review, packet assignment to examiners, on-screen marking, then moderation or revaluation on the unmarked original. OSM is the marking step. The pipeline is realtime.
First-evaluation free-hand digital marks are stored and kept. Revaluation and second revaluation use the original scan without those marks, so the next examiner is not reading someone else’s ticks. A complete programme also needs examiner management, security, and a path into result processing.

Avid OSM was built to give a university a practical way to evaluate large volumes of handwritten answer scripts on screen, with institutional control rather than ad-hoc paper movement.

How does Avid OSM evaluate answer scripts?
Examiners open a scanned answer book, move through pages, mark with a digital pen, enter part-wise marks, and submit. They may optionally request Avid AI Professor suggestions, then edit or accept values before submit.

How does AI-assisted answer evaluation work?
Avid AI Professor reviews answer scripts and suggests question-wise marks together with a logical reason for each suggestion. It can support evaluation across supported languages and scripts. The human examiner remains in control of the final evaluation.

Digital answer book management
After fictitious numbering and flap tear-off, copies are scanned on overhead or high-speed scanners (opening, tearing or resticking books as needed). Images are stored as digital answer books on a secure private cloud. The system identifies each copy, page count and scan quality. Examiners work on assigned packets in an authenticated session rather than carrying physical bundles. Page navigation and zoom support close reading of handwriting. Free-hand digital marks are stored as a layer; the unmarked original is retained.
Examiner allocation
Only copies that pass agency page-by-page review become assignable. The university (or designated exam cell) empanels examiners, assigns copies as packets, and can configure follow-up when evaluation is delayed. Allocation is an operational control, not an unsupervised public queue. Counts update in realtime.
On-screen evaluation workflow
Pipeline: mask identity → scan → private cloud (identify copy, pages, quality) → agency review of each copy → packets to examiners → evaluation in progress → submitted marks. University staff see live counts by course or paper so bottlenecks are visible as they happen.
Moderation
Where an institution requires moderation (sampling or second marking), OSM is designed so additional reviewers can work on digital copies with the same auditability as first marking. Exact moderation rules are configured per university process — we do not claim a single statutory model for all of India.
Revaluation and second revaluation
This is one of the operational advantages of digital evaluation. The first examiner’s free-hand digital marks are kept. For revaluation — and for second revaluation — the next examiner is sent the original unmarked copy, not a script already annotated. There is no wait to retrieve a physical bundle from a strong room. Status of revaluation packets is realtime, same as first evaluation. Result integration should treat each look as a controlled update, not an informal overwrite.
Audit trail
Digital evaluation is only trustworthy if marks, assignment changes, mark-layer vs original-scan custody, and (where used) AI suggestion runs are logged. Avid OSM records evaluation activity so an exam cell can reconstruct what happened to a copy.
Security and access control
Identity is masked before scan (fictitious number, torn flap). Images sit on a private cloud. Access is role-based: examiners see assigned packets; university operators see allocation and progress; agencies see scanning and page-review tasks. Sessions should be authenticated; copies should not be downloadable as a casual file share. Specific hosting and encryption choices are agreed per deployment.
Result integration
Submitted marks need a path into gazette, grade cards or the student information system. Avid OSM can integrate with Avid University ERP and Avid College ERP result workflows where those products are in use. Other SIS/result systems can be discussed as custom integration — we do not claim a universal connector list.

Avid AI Professor can assist on supported languages and scripts. Coverage is confirmed per examination paper during implementation. We do not publish a marketing list that implies every regional script is already live.
