On-Screen Marking

AI-assisted answer sheet evaluation

AI can suggest question-wise marks and reasons on scanned scripts. It should not silently award degrees. Human examiners and institutions remain responsible for final marks.

The pipeline

Direct answer

AI-assisted answer sheet evaluation means software proposes marks (often per question) after looking at a scanned script, ideally with a reason the examiner can check. Final marks should remain an examiner/institutional decision. Treating the model as the awarding authority is a governance failure, not a feature.

How it works

The model sees page images and a configured scheme. It outputs suggested values. A usable system shows why a number was proposed and lets the examiner change it. Logging the suggestion run helps later disputes.

Key considerations

  • Scan and handwriting quality bound how useful any suggestion is.
  • Language/script support is not universal; it must be confirmed per paper.
  • Do not confuse this with an LMS chatbot that explains a video lesson.

FAQ

Does AI assign final marks?

In Avid’s design, no. Avid AI Professor suggests marks and reasons; examiners and institutions approve what is recorded.
