On-Screen Marking

Manual vs AI Suggested vs full AI evaluation in Avid OSM

Avid OSM 3.0 lets a university hide AI, offer on-demand Avid AI Professor suggestions, or run broader AI evaluation. Manual marks take priority. Full AI is a policy choice, not a default.

The pipeline

  1. 01MaskFictitious number. Flap torn off.
  2. 02ScanOverhead or high-speed. Books may be opened.
  3. 03CloudPrivate server. Copy, pages, quality.
  4. 04AgencyEvery copy reviewed page by page.
  5. 05PacketsApproved books assigned to examiners.
  6. 06RevalUnmarked original. Marks stored separately.

Direct answer

AI in on-screen marking should be an exam-season setting, not a hidden default. A university can require fully manual marking, allow examiners to request suggestions, or enable a more automatic AI evaluation path. Whatever the setting, students and grievance cells need a sentence that is true: who awarded the recorded mark.

How it works

Manual: examiners enter all marks; the AI panel can be hidden so nobody thinks a model participated.

AI Suggested: one-click suggestions fill scheme fields; the examiner reviews, edits, and submits. This is the honest “assistant” pattern.

Broader / full AI Evaluation: copies may be processed in the background. This is faster and more dangerous. It is only legitimate if the institution has written rules (sampling, moderation, examiner lock, or explicit acceptance of model output). Software vendors should not pretend that setting does not exist if the product has it — or pretend it is risk-free if it does.

What we built in Avid OSM 3.0

  • University-configurable modes: Manual, AI Suggested, and full AI Evaluation
  • Avid AI Professor suggestions with a logical reason (and, on the evaluation UI, page-oriented explanation and confidence where shown)
  • Human in control: examiners can override; the product line is that suggested marks are not automatically the final academic award
  • AI Professor routing with tentative per-copy cost visibility in INR so finance is not surprised after the season

Avid AI Professor provides suggested marks and reasoning; final marks remain subject to institutional/examiner review and approval.

Key considerations

  • Do not mix this with Avid LMS tutoring (Avid AI Learning Assistant).
  • Regional / supported-script evaluation is confirmed per paper, not claimed for every handwriting on earth.
  • Audit: log that an AI run happened alongside the marks the examiner (or policy) recorded.

FAQ

What is AI Suggested mode?

The examiner can request mark suggestions; every field is still reviewed before submit. Manual values take priority over suggestions.

What is full AI Evaluation mode?

A university-configurable mode where background grading can process copies more automatically. It is a governance decision. Avid still states that final recorded marks remain subject to institutional/examiner control — institutions must not treat this as “the model awarded the degree” without their own rules.

Are AI routes billed per copy?

Avid OSM can show per-copy AI cost transparency in INR where routes are metered (including example route pricing configured per university). Treat published ₹ figures on marketing pages as illustrative of that transparency feature, not as a national tariff.
